Houseboat Concert & Cheese Contest ๐Ÿง€๐ŸŽถ

Pacific Northwest (and Berkeley too!)

It's 2019.02.01 on the lunar calendar today.

I'm going up to Oregon next weekend for the DisOrient Asian American Film Festival in Eugene. I've yet to set foot there but I've been struck by the hospitality and warmth of its residents who've opened up their homes, offered me rides, and gone out of their way to welcome a visitor they don't know.

I'll be playing several concerts in the area (see below for dates) including a *houseboat* concert in Seattle. Then I'll make a stop in Berkeley to play at The Back Room.

Something kind of exciting happened recently. I lost a piece of cheddar that I was certain I packed, heading out for the day. I searched my bag twice, going "Where is my cheese ... Have you seen my cheese?"

Well, the cheese gods heard me and that night, sent me a Twitter ad promoting a Tillamook Cheddar contest (the very cheese I had lost). I entered and won cheese. Tillamook, incidentally, is in Oregon so all signs are pointing to the Pacific Northwest. I'm excited for my first visit ever.

Learning Together

I gave a small assembly for these attentive and inquisitive students in the Korean club at a middle school in South LA. Wearing BTS hoodies, they came eager to absorb everything Korean, and it was fun to see Hallyu (global popularity of K-pop & K-dramas) in person, something I've mostly seen online and discussed in Korean sociology class. They were adorable and fast learners, too! Here's a clip.

Cheese Contest +

Pictured is the 2 lb loaf delivered the day after I lost my cheese, along with a skeuomorphic lunch bag. Either our phones are listening to us or the algorithms already had me pegged as an avid cheese consumer. Also, almost forgot to tell you but my recording of the spiritual "Motherless Child" was featured on Radio Korea!

Until spring is in full bloom ...
