Peach, Sandwich, Pitch, Sandwish
Peach, Sandwich, Pitch, Sandwish
It's 2019.08.01 on the lunar calendar today.
Peaches are so good right now and I'll miss them and watermelon too but a gifted bag of dried persimmons reminded me that there's a lot to look forward to in the season ahead, including at least five different types/ways of eating persimmon. In terms of temperature though, it feels like summer is just starting; it felt hot in LA for the first time this week.
I've been making spreadsheets and outlines, planning out a slew of blog posts and videos I'll share over the fall—one for each track on my album "Dream of Home." I feel like I'll finally be just about ready to release the album in terms of supporting content, a year after I've already released it. Better late than never? Not always but I think so in this case.
Korean Indie Review
Here's a new review of my album. It's thoughtful and attentive to the deliberate musical arrangements—and now I'm writing a review of a review 😅 "Joyce’s songs are more than the genre description. She’s made a soundtrack for people trying to finding their identity ... If there is a history book of Korean music, this album must be included."
Reversible Destiny | We have decided not to die.
I've been mulling over this quote from Arakawa from a recent New York Times Style Magazine article on the late Arakawa and Madeline Gins: "Even though we've been given these incredible organisms, we ignore them. We make fantastic highways for cars, leaving only a tiny space for people. We're profoundly wrong about the way humans live." They were New York mentors to one of my New York mentors so I feel as though I must have absorbed some of their philosophy. I hope to have a chance someday to reside short-term in their 'procedural architecture'—maybe the Tokyo apartment pictured below.
Flashback Friday
Once upon a time, I granted my friends' sandwishes (= wishes for sandwiches) by a castle in Central Park as a plus size fairy. Much has changed in the years since and my relatively carefree life in NYC seems a lifetime ago as I grow older—which reminds me that I recently posted this cover of "Yesterday When I was Young"—but my stomach still yearns for sandwiches and my eyes are still drawn to lavender-colored outfits.
May your sandwishes come true this Labor Day weekend 🥪
