Oink oink

Oink oink 꿀꿀

It's 2019.12.01 on the lunar calendar today.

Are you ready to say goodbye to the year of the pig? Say it with me: "Oink oink." Or "꿀꿀 (ggool ggool)." 🐷🤪 With just a month left, I hope you're enjoying the season as the year comes to a close.

I'm taking a few days off the grid to spend in the virtual reality of the new Avengers VR experience and in the spud mindset of a couch potato. May your holidays be full of potatoes and other worthy carbs.

Little bird, little bird ... You can watch the new music video of the full-band version of "Little Bird" here and follow the lyrics in languages including Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Yoruba, Hebrew, Croatian, Russian, French, Portuguese, and Spanish, thanks to multilingual friends. In another friend's words: "It's so whimsical like a Ghibli Studio movie came to life!" Though I personally found Spirited Away too eerie to finish watching, I do adore Totoro and am pleased to hear that it can evoke the same feeling as the animations. To hear me tell the story behind the song and video, head over to the blog.

Blog Update

Speaking of the blog, I have completed the behind-the-scenes posts on each song from my now-year-old album "Dream of Home." For some fun and informative reading over the holidays, please do check out the series.

You can also read my friend Julian/No-No Boy's

in which he writes: “But one thing that kept me going during that cold New England thaw, aside from the couple of true friends I had in town, was Joyce’s song ‘Why-Go-Round.’ Give it a listen, especially if you’re having a rough time, or are just feeling extra human, which is to say messy, sad, and really down.”

Podcast Corner

I've been listening to WNYC's Death, Sex & Money for the past four to five years, a podcast exploring "the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation." You can find "Why-Go-Round" on a long playlist they compiled called "Anthems of the Decade." And Moonface, which features my recording of "Nililiya," has been named one of the top 10 podcasts of 2019 by Time magazine. Whoa — glad people are getting to hear stories and viewpoints that often go untold in media and that they're discovering my music through it too.

2020, here we come!
