2020.06.01
Today is June 1st.
Today is Tuesday.
It's 2020.06.01 on the lunar calendar today.
My monthly ping to let you know a new lunar month is here! What's the point of a calendar during a pandemic though? It's hard to distinguish between days and keep track of appointments. I've not been making music or creating much the past month but it's been a busy time.
I've just been feeling glad to make it to the end of each week and each Friday, I think "TGIF!" — do you remember that programming block on television? I had been watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch regularly for a while but lately I've also started getting into movies from the 90s.
If that's all there is ...
I hear it would've been Peggy Lee's 100th birthday recently. From the archives, here's my cover of her hit, Is That All There Is?And for those who like to deal with existential crisis with memes, here's one of Nhilisa Frank, which pairs nicely with the song.
The Santa Barbara Independent has published an article on what local arts organizations are doing to reach audiences during the pandemic. It was a pleasure chatting with the arts editor for the
in my role as a speaker for Music Academy of the West. It's been a joy connecting with the Music Academy Fellows and I've been curious to see the results of the projects they've been working on.
I was intrigued by horn player Gaby Pho's idea to record Messiaen's "Interstellar Call" for horn in Bryce Canyon, Utah, the place of inspiration for the composer. Gaby did a beautiful job with her project and if you feel like you're going stir-crazy,
may provide some relief. And check out the video description for more on the context for the piece as well.
Currently listening to Clairdee's Stand Up 🎧Clairdee is a model of grace and beauty. I learned much about stage presence from her while in college. This song is from her tribute album to Lena Horne.
