Lunar June
Lunar June
It's 2022.06.01 on the lunar calendar today.
Hi, how are you? Sending you a compact update. Having gone offline (no email, news, etc. for over a week!) while on vacation, I now feel ready to get back to work—it's going to be full steam ahead from here. I attended the League of American Orchestras conference the past month and enjoyed the time with the composers constituency.
After months of phone calls going over ideas, mp3s and notes, Ross Moss and I are taking a day in person to work out some arrangements for the album before the band convenes in one month. I've written a dozen songs for us to pick from and plan to write a few solo-choral compositions too. Below is a sketch of one of the songs.
You and a Song
When night nears, it’ll be just you and a songA melody knitted through the decades to keep you warmThe tone like clay formed and fired in the heart of a kilnA hum that flows, oh so easily, as if you’d lived on a larkWhen night nears, it’ll be just you and a songA melody spun of memories to fill the silenceThe rasp of age frays the edges as you remember and recallLyrics that glow, how they flicker, like embers in the dark
Music Academy
Tomorrow, I'm returning to Music Academy of the West for the third summer but for the first time on campus in Santa Barbara! The Fellows are a super talented, bright bunch of classical musicians and I look forward to working with them, discussing marketing/branding as it relates to their amazing projects.
