It's 2022.08.01 on the lunar calendar today.

Hello~ The Jungian recording retreat was wonderful. It makes me wistful to see the sun setting before 8pm already but I'll be glad to hunker down for the fall to get cracking on post-production after a summer of long drives around California.

Pictured is a retreat snapshot titled "giant heads, posture of humility." (Humility is a pillar of the album). From left to right: Ross, Keith, me (Joyce), Gavin, Brandon, Dre. I love these guys! They're my band and I feel that we share in great joy ❤️

Shark Tank for Classical Music

It was a total pleasure and honor adjudicating the Fast Pitch Awards at Music Academy of the West. I couldn't help but laugh a little when I saw that the other panelists were the CEO of Sonos, Patrick Spence, and a MacArthur Fellow/music educator, Francisco Núñez, but my role as someone able to provide insights bridging music and brand strategy became clear to me once there. I felt a bit like Padma from Top Chef in a patterned print 😛 It wasn't easy agreeing on one winner and I sincerely hope that I get to see some of the ideas come to life in the future. You can watch the winning pitch and feedback

Alliance for California Traditional Arts Apprenticeship

I've been wanting to recommit to learning the traditional sanjo form on gayageum and a recent grant from the

will allow me to do that over the coming months! I will apprentice with master gayageum teacher Ji Yun-Ja, a daughter of my late teacher Ko Soon-Ok's teacher/intangible asset Sung Keum-Yun. I look forward to getting back into a regular practice routine and gaining confidence in playing traditional music (instead of just my own songs) so that I may better share Korean music.
