That's Entertainment

That's Entertainment

It's 2023.02.01 on the lunar calendar today.

Hello to the first February of 2023 (the next month is also February). Having finished my choral pieces, I've been overindulging in reading the news and it's been an unhealthy habit. It has also been bizarre in the strangely dis/connected way we live now: I was snacking when I loaded up the New York Times and had to quickly scroll down when I realized that I was watching footage of the aftermath of the earthquake like it was entertainment—literally munching on popcorn.

Now that the album mixes are nearly complete, I'm shifting focus to the creative and will be collaborating with my tried and true team, including Jon, who made the music video below. Other than that, I'm learning to cook so that I can entertain guests. In using my oven for the first time, I learned it is possible to botch take-and-bake cookies. It was a mess but still a hoot, and we enjoyed the food I remembered to serve once I was able to finish cooking an hour late.

A World Without You

You can now watch the music video to the finale song from Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons on YouTube. I shot the video to "A World Without You" with a skeletal but remarkable team of director Jon Pears and the game studio's lead composer Maclaine Diemer, who wrote the arrangement of the song. Shivering by the winter chill of the water around 5 a.m. and feeling like the wind might whisk me off the cliff at sunset happened to work to our advantage in getting the takes we wanted for this particular video. And I was over the moon hanging with Jon and Maclaine—they restore my faith in people of the Westside.

Best Original Song

"A World Without You" is nominated for Best Original Song in this year's Game Audio Network Guild Awards—voted on by the game audio community! Voting ends tomorrow so if you know of anyone that works in the industry, please pass the song along. You can check out the full list of nominees in Variety.
