Keep It Weird
Keep It Weird
It’s 2024.06.01 on the lunar calendar today.
This T. rex was walking by Dolores Park and said to me, “Keep SF weird.” I agree. And in the spirit of keeping my music weird, here is the the latest release, UAP.
UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) is a more recent name for UFO (Unidentified Flying Object). Here’s what Carl Jung had to say about them.
“Jung has explained the UFOs as a projection of a psychic content (of wholeness) that has at all times been symbolized by the circle. In other words, this ‘visionary rumor,’ as can also be seen in many dreams of our time, is an attempt by the unconscious collective psyche to heal the split in our apocalyptic age by means of the symbol of the circle.”
–Aniela Jaffé in “Man & His Symbols”
UAP is the penultimate track from my new album “Orange Hour,” coming out in just a few weeks. What is an orange hour? I’ve made a video explaining the album title.
I’ve been eating oranges and quesadillas daily to consume the oranges and tortillas purchased as props to shoot the video. (My sister said what I’ve been having should actually be called “dillas” but I’ve since purchased and added cheese.) The tortilla is a reference to Leslie Marmon Silko’s “tortilla time.” I am wondering if I can coat a tortilla with resin or something to DIY a wall clock.
I’ll host a listening party at 6pm PT on Wednesday 7/24, a couple days before the album is out on Jung’s birthday. Click over if you want to listen together, including the bonus tracks. If you want to be a part of the chat, you’ll have to log in to Bandcamp, but I think anyone should be able to stream from the link at the appointed time. I’ll be posting other previews on YouTube and Instagram in the coming weeks so please keep an eye out.
Currently listening to my favorite track from Nick DePinna’s Nexus Music, Vol. 2—contemporary big band music at its finest 🎧
