Doodlin'

Doodlin’

It’s 2024.08.01 on the lunar calendar today.

Flying east today, I started listening to my album with the first tracks “Empty Ambition” and “Future History” during the golden hour and noticed that by the time I got to the end with “UAP” and “You and a Song,” the sky had turned to night. It was a happy coincidence—a synchronicity perhaps? I didn’t notice until now that I had unintentionally sort of ordered the tracks from day into night.

I made a behind-the-scenes video for “Spin” with the doodles above sprinkled throughout. It’ll give you a sense of how the song took shape and how we went about rehearsing and tracking the tune, which was just a bare-bones melody and chords.

If you want to watch but don’t have 23 minutes to watch the whole rehearsal/recording session video, I might suggest that you start with the first few minutes to see the inspiration for “Spin” and/or click on any of the images below to watch clips that are just a handful of seconds long. The extra soft one is my favorite.
