Setting Sail

It’s 2024.12.01 on the lunar calendar today.

Hello! We greet the final month of 2024 on the lunar calendar and the final day of 2024 on the Gregorian calendar today.

I’m not just saying goodbye to last year but to a whole era. Two anchors of my adult life of the past ten to fifteen years are being released and it’s time for me to set sail. It’s sad, exciting, frightening, freeing—a swirl of emotions at once—heading into uncharted waters.

On the cusp of the unknown, I must have been feeling anxious and woke up in the middle of the night. Unable to fall back asleep, I went downstairs and peered out the windows and saw that it looked eerie outside. I headed back up the stairs and saw in the hallway my dear aunt, looking indescribably radiant. I was so happy to see her that I leapt to embrace her and in doing so realized I was dreaming, having fallen back asleep. Though she passed years ago, I believe she made a visit to encourage me in this turbulent time of transitions. After all, she knows all about transitions having made what is probably the biggest one: dying.

I’m wishing you good dreams that power you through the day and if you’re setting sail too, maybe see you out there. (Should we learn semaphore? … I suppose music serves a similar purpose for me.) I’ll probably be writing from a platform other than Mailchimp, in the new year/era with music.
